A New York priest insists he has NOT signed for Celtic

At least it wasn’t Philipp Lahm of God.

THEY MAY PLAY their home games in Paradise but that doesn’t mean one New York priest has actually signed for Celtic.

Fr. Michael Duffy, who is based in the diocese of Rockville Centre in Farmingdale, New York has been receiving messages of congratulations from fans of the Scottish champions, despite never kicking a football in his life.

And, despite the fact footballers and priests have little more than frequently blessing themselves in common, all that separates the man of the cloth from the former Derry winger on Twitter is a simple underscore at the end of the footballer’s user name.

“I started receiving congratulations messages from people in Ireland,” Fr. Duffy told BBC Radio Foyle.

“I was looking at their names and thought, my goodness, I don’t know who these people are and why they’re congratulating me.

“”I finally found out that the other Michael Duffy signed with the Celtics [sic] – I’ve never in my life before been confused with a professional athlete, so it was a first for me.”

And the incident has led to some relative fame for the priest:
